Dear 16 year old me

If you had the opportunity to write to your 16-year-old self, what would you say?

Dear Danielle.

Hi its me, you, us.

I know you don’t like reading much any more, which actually begins to change rapidly once you leave school but we are here in this moment so I won’t keep you long.

I am almost 5 years older than you now which is shocking stuff. The big 21 soon.

———–

I realise that you are young and haven’t really gotten the hang of this whole growing up thing yet, I still don’t really have the hang of it either, I don’t think anyone ever really gets the hang of it to be honest so don’t fret about it.

You are in school right now heading into your Leaving Cert year, I’ve been there and worn that t-shirt so if there is any piece of advice I can give to you is do the best you can. All you can ever do in life is give it your best shot and that is all I ask of you. What is meant for you won’t pass 😉 (believe me, I know.)

—————

On the subject of boys, you are going to end up falling in love next year, be prepared, you will cry, a lot. You will probably spend the next year of your life crying. You will have your heart broken and unfortunately it won’t be the last time but your heart mends itself and you gradually begin to feel a whole lot happier in the end, so the tears were actually in fact worth it funnily enough.

Yes, you still have a hard time understanding boys but they are not hugely important in your life any more and someday you will find somebody who you will just know is the one

Oh btw, your still pretty shit at being in a relationship. just saying. sorry.

————–

The friends you have right now won’t be your friends forever, that is not a bad thing either.

You will rekindle old friendships that you thought were over, they’re not. You won’t have a huge group of best friends but those girls will end up being some of your truest friends and you will appreciate them a whole lot.

Try not to be a bitch.

————–

Try to be more understanding when it comes to your relationship with your Dad!

————

Stop starving yourself, you will get sick.

———–

Learn to love yourself.

Have confidence in yourself. Never stop dreaming.

You still love music and you still have the same dream 5 years later to be a singer.

Things won’t work out for you when you go to college at first but keep muddling on, it gets better.

Oh and that guitar you are going to get for Christmas this year, you actually do learn to play it.

———–

I hope this helps.

Keep your chin up and keep singing.

Love,

The older, more mature, you.
